what is god for you?
what is god for you?
mig. in the video you were asked what god is for you. is there something you wish to add?
cl. god for me is light, first and foremost. i think that everything is energy: the universe, us and everything, and we're all the same energy, all connected. it's very much the buddhist point of view. for me, this light that we have inside of us is god. in this moment i'm being separated from everyone else by my body, so i'm carolina, but we're all the same thing really, all made up of the same substance. that's what god is for me, this energy that forms all things.
mig. is the word god controversial for you? if yes why?
cl. yes, because god sounds like one thing, like a singular, separate thing, and that goes against what i believe. i believe that god is everything together, this life force. So i guess it's not controversial but it doesn't define the subject appropriately.
mig. do you think of religion when you hear the word god? if yes, why?
cl. no. i believe it's because i don't really like religion. i feel like religion separates people instead of bringing them together, while my philosophy in life is all about how we are all one and should all be putting more love into the world. i'm extremely fond of buddhist philosophy, but i wouldn't even say that i follow buddhism as a religion. religion sets rules for you to be loved by god, for you to be "right", and you have to follow these set rules someone else defined or else you're not welcome into their heaven and you can't be a part of their group. it focuses on our differences and pushes people apart, declaring that if you think differently from me then you are bad, and wrong. i grew up in a jewish town and i was a practicing christian, and i remember questioning myself after listening to the preacher, "so all my friends at school, they're going to go to hell because they don't believe in jesus?" it didn't make sense to me, i didn't believe in it. i don't feel that that's how humanity is, or should be. so, to answer your question, no, i don't think of religion.
mig. do you believe everything happens for a reason, or are we the reason why things happen?
cl. i believe everything happens in the moment it should. i believe we're attracting things all the time, energy-wise, but that if it's happening it's happening for a reason. if something bad happens, you're learning from it, you're evolving. that's what i think we're here for, to learn, grow and evolve. so i think that yes, everything happens for a reason and i don't think anyone goes through unnecessary pain, it's all necessary, it's all helping us get where we need to be.
mig. define love. what does love mean for you?
cl. love is everything. i have no idea how to define love, it's so much! it's what i live for, i love love. when i say 'good energy' that's love manifested. when you are creating goodness, being good to everyone around you, you are creating love. it's what we're here for, that's what we're doing here, or should be doing; loving, giving more love to the world because it needs it. We should always try our best to give love, because no one is all good, we're all light and shadows, ying and yang. so we should try to focus on the light, working on diminishing the shadows.
mig. do you think love is something all life forms share?
mig. what in your opinion can make a relationship last a whole lifetime?
cl. you have to admire the person you're with, and respect them. when i say admire it's because you have to love the person for who she actually is; you don't love someone because they dress well or because they have a certain job or because they're good looking, you love them for their soul. you love the way they see life, you love the way they perceive the world and you respect them as a human being for that. i think that when you feel this, then you have true love, then you can build a solid, everlasting relationship, because you love sharing your life with that person. so you must have that and respect. because without the respect you lose the admiration, because by disrespecting someone you hurt them, and you'll break that pure love you share. by respect i mean you don't get to be selfish, love is selfless! you don't get to do what you want all the time, you do things thinking about how the other person is gonna feel and you have to respect their feelings and wants. also, you have to have the will to make it work, because you can have respect and admiration and still want to give up on everything after ten years. so you have to want that person as your partner in life, and you have to be willing to do what it takes: when you're not in such a good moment or you hit a particularly rough patch, you must be willing to fight for what you built together.
mig. what have you learned about life so far?
cl. that life is profoundly beautiful and amazing and i'm just so thankful that i'm here and grateful for the things that i get to experience while i'm here. i also learned that it can be very hard. people can be really harsh with each other and there's a lot of darkness in the world, a lot of meanness and pettiness. but i feel there's more positive than negative in life, even if sometimes it doesn't seem that way. i've learned to always focus on the light in any given situation, because that way when you're depressed, going through hard times or feeling hopeless, you can remember that it's going to pass, everything in our life is transitory, and that its happening for a reason, even if you can't understand it at the moment. if you're a good person, light will always find a way into your life. also, there is nothing time can't cure..it's cliché but heartily true.
mig. how would you describe us/humanity today?
cl. humanity worries me a lot. reading troublesome news from around the world or observing everyday life around me and having to accept that even today we have to deal with so much hatred, violence, shallowness, petty competition and misinformation just makes me really sad. Especially the moment my country, brasil, is going through politically and economically, making me continuously worry about my people. corrupted institutions, people constantly feeling unsafe because of widespread violence, undereducated and manipulated masses, the endless impunity that makes us feel hopeless... because of issues like these, i'll sometimes start to lose faith in humanity but then i think, wow, imagine that less than seventy years ago, the holocaust was happening, look how far we've come! today we have respect for human rights, international cooperation, animal rights and serious environmentalism/sustainability. so yes there are still a lot of very worrisome problems with humanity in general, but we're getting there..i really believe we're moving forward, so i have faith in us after all.
